*Aesop's Fables* by Aesop, illustrated by Ayano Imai
Aesop's Fables
by Aesop, illustrated by Ayano Imai
Grades K-3 32 pages minedition November 2013 Hardcover

Aesop's Fables continue to endure, lasting thousands of years with the tales of morality teaching and delighting generations of readers across many cultures.

This latest edition features well-known tales such as “The Tortoise and the Hare” and lesser-known tales such as “The Ox and the Frog.”

What separates this edition from the pack is the incredible set of illustrations by Ayano Imai. That most of the fables center on animals gives Imai space for sweet, lush illustrations that feature wonderful and surreal details.

Readers of any age can appreciate the stories and art of this book, but older readers may gravitate to the sophisticated illustrations in a way young children might not appreciate.

Each fable occupies just two pages—one full-page image and a second page with the fable that typically runs no longer than 10-12 lines of text along with some small accompanying illustrations. The accompanying illustrations add some extra whimsy to the beauty of the book.

This is simply a lovely addition to the history of storytellers sharing Aesop’s famed morality tales.
