Barrington Bear Visits the Emperor - The Emperor Penguin, That Is
by Keith Szafranski
Ages 4-8 48 pages Small Bear Publishing February 2008 Hardcover

In the lovable first book of the Travels with Barrington Bear series, we journey to the depths of Antarctica in search of the Emperor penguin colony.

Barrington Bear explores Antarctica and fast becomes friends with the Emperor Penguins of the colony, exploring their world and learning many fascinating things about them. Barrington also plays and interacts with many penguins of all ages - what a wonderful and educational vacation children can enjoy right along with Barrington!

The photography that lines the pages is top-notch, a great resource to utilize for those children that are fond of penguins. Some of the vocabulary is new and large for the target audience, but a reference list is provided at the back of the book for those who need to look up the meaning of some of the words, along with an Emperor penguin factsheet. For younger children writing a paper about Emperor penguins, this book is a great reference.

Barrington Bear is a delightful travelling companion and fantastic photographer. I look forward to joining him on his future travels.
