Bear's Loose Tooth
by Karma Wilson, illustrated by Jane Chapman
Ages 3-7 40 pages Margaret K. McElderry Books August 2011 Hardcover

Any child who has lost baby teeth will find it easy to relate to this latest Bear adventure. Bear is having lunch with his forest friends when he discovers that he has a loose tooth. At first he is very upset, but his friends assure him that when this tooth falls out, another will grow in.

A number of the animals try to help the process along by pulling out the tooth, but it will not budge. Bear tries using his tongue to wiggle the tooth, and out it falls. That night Bear leaves his tooth out for the Tooth Fairy. The next morning, he finds that she has left him his favorite treat: a bowl of fresh blueberries.

If your child is beginning to deal with “wiggly teeth,” this might be a good story to have handy to read when the situation occurs. After reading about Bear’s experience, your son or daughter may not find a loose tooth so scary.
