Ages 4-8 32 pages Katherine Tegen Books April 2006 Hardcover

Need a makeover? Well, you may want to avoid calling Beautiful Buehla after reading this absolutely hilarious book about a zany zoo makeover that goes over the top. Seems zookeeper Mr. Phibbs wants to have a nice photo taken of his zoo animals, so he calls upon an expert to get them camera ready.

Along comes Beautiful Buehla of the Beautiful Buehla’s Beauty Parlor, complete with makeup bag in tow, and she proceeds to turn the bevy of animals into, well, a bevy of animals wearing crazy, garish makeup and bizarre, silly clothes. Needless to say, Mr. Phibbs is more anxious than ever, but Buehla thinks they all look simply marvelous.

Happily, the end result is quite picture perfect in this utterly delightful book that combines a kooky and fun story, thanks to author Gary Hogg, with equally kooky and fun illustrations courtesy of Victoria Chess. Let’s just say I hope these two team up again and again, because Beautiful Buehla and the Zany Zoo Makeover is a crack-up that will entertain kids and parents of all ages.
