Ages 3-5 24 pages Beach Lane Books September 2011 Hardcover

Simple sentence structure and oversized illustrations have made the Brownie and Pearl picture books quite popular with beginning readers. This latest book follows Brownie and her tabby cat as they prepare for bed.

After bath time (Brownie is in the tub as Pearl washes her paws next to it), the two grab a couple of cookies and then select a bedtime story. Pearl’s favorite is “Miss Kitty,” and Brownie has to read it aloud twice.

Once storytime is over, Brownie carries her kitty up the stairs, where the pair snuggle down in the little girl’s warm bed. Curled up together into “happy little bed balls,” it’s time to say “good-night” and turn off the lights.

If your child is ready to join in reading aloud at story time, Brownie and Pearl Hit the Hay is an excellent transition book that will not only engage the youngster but encourage him or her to tackle some of the simple text.
