Cars Galore
by Peter Stein, illustrated by Bob Staake
Ages 4-8 32 pages Candlewick March 2011 Hardcover

If your child loves cars, he or she will enjoy reading this picture book over and over again. Filled with a wild collection of whimsical autos, in its pages you’ll find cars with distinctive personalities, awesome features, and rather eccentric passengers.

Not only do they come in all colors of the rainbow; you’ll find “Cars on highways! Cars on cliffs! Cars on Skyways! Cars on lifts!” There’s also a “Hundred-feet car. Incomplete car. Scary shark car” and “Noah’s Ark car!” - even a “Rusty, dusty, hunk-of-junk car. Stinky, yucky, smells-like-a-skunk car.”

After you’ve had fun looking at this bizarre array of cars, you might wish to take out some paper and let your child design his or her own special car. As Peter Stein does here, push the envelope and come up with something really different - and perhaps just a tad silly!
