Ages 4-8 32 pages NorthSouth November 2009 Hardcover

Five friends - a grub, two worms, a beetle and a caterpillar - prepare for the coming winter. But not all goes according to plan when one of the pals disappears and another finds his food stores for the winter to be unexpectedly diminished. Luckily, spring is coming.

This warm and sweet book celebrates the arrival of spring as seen through the eyes of little critters surviving the winter underground. In My Dreams I Can Fly! was originally published in Switzerland, and some of the text of the story sounds disjointed, suggesting that something may have been lost in the translation into English. The artwork, while gorgeous, evocative and dream-like, appears to be designed with adults in mind rather than young children.

In My Dreams I Can Fly! is a solid addition to a child’s nature library, but may well hold more appeal for the adults reading the book to the child in question.
