Fancy Nancy can’t wait to get outside and help her mother and father rake leaves. After changing into an outfit that matches the autumn colors, she heads into the yard with her dog, Frenchy, and her younger sister, JoJo.
Raking becomes exhausting, so she gathers the prettiest leaves she can find. Because they are unique, she wants to do something “extremely creative” with them.
She’s not sure what she will make until Frenchy comes running into the house covered in leaves. Then she makes something her whole family (and neighborhood) can enjoy.
The fancy words children will learn while reading this book include burgundy, foliage, autumn, and unique. There are no French words in this story, but there is an urban slang word (fabu) and her familiar expression, “Ooh, la, la.”
On the fridge, there are four leaves displayed. They are labeled maple, elm, oak, and ginkgo. The artwork reflects Fancy Nancy’s sense of style and creativity. Frenchy wears a polka-dotted scarf and blue hat, and the leaves are multicolored. The house is beautiful inside; we see a china cabinet full of dishes, a door with glass panels, and a decorative blue and white fruit bowl and purple pie plate.
This book comes with a removable sheet of thirty-six autumn stickers (leaves, squash, squirrels, rakes, cider, and pie). This is a quick read that old and new fans can fall into on a chilly autumn day.
