A return to the foreboding Spence Academy brings the reader back to adventure with Gemma Doyle in the third book of the Gemma Doyle trilogy.

It has been a year since Gemma arrived at the academy and learned of the mysterious underworld known only as the Realms. Gemma and her friends Felicity and Anne have learned to use the dark magic that resides with Gemma to benefit the dwellers in the Realms. They have also been drawn into the magic and what it can do for them to make them prettier, wiser, and more popular.

As the burned East Wing is being restored, Gemma is reacquainted with the gypsies promising the coming of evil to those who are a part of the rebuilding. Gemma must learn to trust her own instincts as she attempts to unravel the mysteries of the underworld, while those she once befriended try to get her to give up the magic and pass it over to the evil Rakshana forces.

Gemma, Felicity and Anne will learn valuable lessons about truth, friendship, loyalty and commitment as they struggle to remove evil from their own world. Sometimes these lessons come at a very high price.

Although this is a standalone sequel, it does help the reader to understand the relationships if they have read the previous titles in this trilogy.
