Little Raccoon Learns to Share (Watch Me Grow)
by Mary Packard, illustrated by Lisa McCue
Ages 1-4 24 pages Sterling April 2013 Hardcover

Little Raccoon hates to share or wait her turn. In fact, she reasons that if she always goes first, she can be assured of getting the most.

One day, while out berry picking, Little Raccoon sees her friends getting ready to have an impromptu party. She wants to go to the party, but not if it means that her friends will see her basket full of berries and want her to share the yummy berries. So she stays hidden behind the berry bush.

When Little Raccoon’s mother finally persuades her to go to the party and take along some berry muffins to share with her friends, Little Raccoon learns that sharing with others can be very nice.

Little Raccoon Learns to Share is a simple and visually pleasing book about the virtues of sharing. The writing by experienced children’s author Mary Packard is solid, but I felt like the story needed to be fleshed out more. The artwork by accomplished illustrator Lisa McCue is adorable and eye-catching.

Although the book is listed as being appropriate for children between the ages of 3 to 5, I think that it is better suited to toddlers and preschoolers.
