Kate Westerlund and Feridun Oral bring the simple yet significant "Message of the Birds" to readers young and old in this artfully expressed picture book. Adults around the world long ago stopped listening to the birds' songs and message. As ages have passed, the inability of adults to hear the birds message has had terrible effects upon all. But all is not lost: the children of the world not only hear but actually listen, rejuvenating the birds in their mission to sing loud their beautiful song and unite all with their message.

This short picture book packs a punch with its poignant moral and eye-catching illustrations sure to capture the attention of young, inquisitive minds and adults alike. In terms of children's literature, this is an easy-to-read stepping stone for a beginner reader or to be enjoyed in a storytime setting. The vocabulary throughout the read is pretty simple with the added perk of a few complicated bird names that bring a nice introduction to wildlife science educationas an added bonus.

Kate Westerlund is an experienced children's book author with numerous books to her name. As an illustrator, Feridun Oral is well-respected and also has many books under his belt. Comparable reads to The Message of the Birds are The Alaska Mother Goose by Shelley Gill and The Unicorn Alphabet by Marianna Mayer.
