My Side of the Car
by Kate Feiffer, illustrated by Jules Feiffer
Ages 4-8 32 pages Candlewick April 2011 Hardcover

Sadie has wanted to go to the zoo for a long time, but every time she and her father have tried to make the short trip, something has happened so that they never quite get there.

In the past an accidental fall, a lost dog, and unexpected visitors have derailed the trip. Today - no matter what - they are going to make it to the zoo to see the animals. But then it begins to rain. Sadie’s father points out that it is coming down pretty hard, but the little girl insists there is no rain on her side of the car. So what do they do? Her father humors her and they continue on.

By the time they get to their destination, it is obvious that there’s a big storm soaking the zoo and even Sadie has to admit that this is not a good day to see the animals.

It may appear that this is another aborted trip, but then something happens to salvage the outing. I’ll let you discover what it is, but rest assured, your child will love the outcome of this delightful story.

Author Kate Feiffer’s famous father, cartoonist Jules Feiffer, provides the humorous illustrations that accompany this amusing story. From start to finish you and your child will love reading this cute, funny, picture book.
