Oh No! Time to Go!: A Book of Goodbyes
by Rebecca Doughty
Grades PreK-2 40 pages Schwartz and Wade May 2009 Hardcover

Although it is impossible to completely avoid “goodbyes” and the potential difficultly a little one may experience when faced with a departure, it’s reassuring to know that there is a book that can provide assistance. Whether it is time to leave a play date, end a visit with a grandparent or move to another neighborhood, Oh No! Time to Go!: A Book of Goodbyes makes light of the situation, which will assist parents in easing any necessary transition.

Although one may believe there is a universal way of saying good-bye, a central theme of the book is that there are many variations. The departure may be marked with the simple waving of a human hand, the bellowing of “toodle-oo,” or a dog’s indication of its intention to leave referenced in the book by the “lifting of a leg or the sniffing of a rear.”

Oh No! Time to Go! is a sweet book with charming illustrations that depict relatable characters and situations likely to distract little ones from any reluctance or sadness that may be associated with a good-bye and redirect their focus to a new beginning.
