*Papa Seahorse's Search* by Anita Bijsterbosch
Papa Seahorse's Search
by Anita Bijsterbosch
Ages 2-5 32 pages Clavis March 2016 Hardcover

It’s time for bed, but one baby seahorse is missing. All the dads in the sea help Papa Seahorse look for his missing baby.

On each double-page spread, there is a flap to open, prepositions to learn, and babies to count(“Papa Seahorse looks inside the shell and he sees…one, two, three baby sea turtles”). The number three is also shown as a numerical digit.

The father seahorse looks behind Papa Anglerfish’s lamp and under Papa Sea Snake's pile of rocks. After he counts nine baby shrimp hiding in the seaweed, Papa Shrimp looks in the seahorse’s pouch and finds the missing baby. When all the babies have their tails wrapped around the seaweed, the children can re-count the seahorses and see they are all back home, ready to fall sleep.

Vibrant colors appear on the seahorses and in the water. The rocks are multi-colored, and many of the sea animals have patterns of swirls, dots, and stripes. This interactive story can be enjoyed as a counting or bedtime book or to teach children about a father seahorse’s role in birth.
