*Play, Mozart, Play!* by Peter Sis

Play, Mozart, Play!
by Peter Sis
Baby-preschool 32 pages Greenwillow May 2006 Hardcover

Internationally acclaimed author and artist Peter Sis introduces children to a little tike named Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. This is the author’s first children’s book, and it is a delightful and unique picture book that teaches kids all about this musical genius.

Using words and images to tell Mozart’s story, Sis shows us a child playing piano all the time, and when he is not playing, he is practicing. Driven by a father with big ambitions for his child, we see Mozart playing for royalty, playing blindfolded and backwards, playing and playing and playing…and doing little else. The highly imaginative and whimsical illustrations accompany Mozart as he practices and plays his way into history as a genius of musical, magical proportions.

The end page provides facts about Mozart’s life, a nice addition to a book that both teaches and entertains. What a wonderful way to teach kids about music, about history, and about those who used their gifts and talents to brighten the world.

Can Mozart come out and play now?
