*Queen of the Scene* by Queen Latifah, illustrated by Frank Morrison
Queen of the Scene
by Queen Latifah, illustrated by Frank Morrison
Grades K-3 32 pages Laura Geringer Books September 2006 Hardcover

Adult fans of Queen Latifah and the message of empowerment that she seems to blast through all of her music will be pleased that she has decided to take her message to a younger audience. In Queen of the Scene, she introduces readers to a bright, confident young girl who cannot be stopped. She runs through the neighborhood playing games, participating in activities, and showing everyone that regardless of the task, she can be, and is, the best.

The text of the book is written in rhymes which, surprisingly, are a bit awkward and not as smooth as one would expect in a published book - especially when the book is penned by someone with Queen Latifah’s talent. Notwithstanding, the story is one that will empower confidence in young children yet remind them that at the end of the day, a child is still a child and must respect her parents and their rules.
