Revolution 19
by Gregg Rosenblum
Ages 13+ 272 pages HarperTeen January 2013 Hardcover

Rosenblum is a crafty and skilled writer, though the ideas he draws on here that have been written about before. You'll probably key on Terminator when you hear about "system-wide malfunctions when the robots stopped fighting." But the story is original enough to hold your attention. In fact, it is mean to to become a TV movie of some sort and has Homeland creator Howard Gordon onboard as well.

While the robots run amok, siblings Nick, Kevin and Cass have been hidden away in the wilderness. Their location is finally uncovered, their home destroyed and their family either killed or captured.

They set off to infiltrate the robot nest and find their parents. Citizens have been microchipped and reeducated (think 1984) and all seems lost. But the trio realize there's more at stake than just locating their elders.

The author's prose is well-constructed and comes easily off the pages. Though the ideas may not be wholly original, Revolution 19 is still a taut read that will keep you riveted.
