by Matthew Reinhart
Ages 3+ 12 pages Robin Corey Books August 2012 Paperback

Reinhart’s (A Princess Like Me: A Royal Pop-Up and Rescue: Pop-Up Emergency Vehicles) dinosaur world is full of noise and activity.

The Stegosaurus splashes, splishes, and grunts as he looks for food along the river. The Apatosaurus makes a boom, crash, crunch noise as she walks through the forest, and the Triceratops, Tyrannosaurus Rex, and Ankylosaurus all make fighting sounds as they defend themselves or their families.

The design of the pop-up dinosaurs helps them move in surprising ways. Pulling one tab sideways makes a dinosaur head lift up from out of the trees and turns tree trunks into dinosaur legs. Pulling down a flap that looks like a cloud makes the flying Pteranodon visible, and opening the middle page allows readers to see the inside of the Triceratops’s mouth.

Each double-page spread features a different landscape populated by dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures. The illustrations are colored to give the appearance of textures and patterns. Back material includes a pronunciation guide and four coloring opportunities.

Rumble! Roar! Dinosaurs! can be read quickly because the sentences are few in number, but the interactive features will have children lingering over the dinosaurs on each page.
