Splat the Cat: What Was That?
by Rob Scotton
Ages 4-8 16 pages HarperFestival July 2013 Paperback

Splat the Cat is back with his friends Spike and Seymour for a Halloween adventure. While trick or treating, the friends lose Seymour the rat and have to find him inside a spooky house. Readers follow Splat and Spike through a maze of creepy noises and decorations, but the scary stuff is all in their imagination.

Joe Merkel’s illustrations keep Splat’s black fur standing on end, his tail fresh from a light socket. The lift-a-flap design gives Scotton and Merkel opportunities for every page to feature a little surprise.

Splat’s fans will find many delights in his Halloween adventure.
