Trinity Blood - Rage Against the Moons, Vol. 1: From the Empire
by Sunao Yoshida & Thores Shibamoto
Ages 12+ 219 pages Tokyopop April 2007 Paperback

Armageddon has come and gone, but the war between vampires and humans still rages on. To combat the vampires, the Vatican has trained a Special Ops group of priests called Team AX. They have the ultimate weapon on their side: Father Abel Nightroad, a Crusnik -a vampire who hunts and kills other vampires.

This six-volume narrative offers glimpses of the war between the powerful and terrifying immortals versus the moral and immaculate high priests. With a plot in motion to assassinate the newly appointed young pope, Abel Nightroad, Special Agent Astharoshe Asran, and the Terminator-like killing machine Tres Iqus (aka “Gunslinger”) set out to hunt down and foil as many Methuselah vampires as possible. Armed with magical healing powers, super speed, and the most powerful gun in the world, this trio does everything within their power to save Vatican City and Rome from a second shot at total annihilation.

Filled to the brim with blood, guts and unmentionable horrors (although Yoshida is happy enough to mention them, usually in violent and graphic detail), this first installment in the Trinity Blood series will satisfy the most blood-hungry of horror fans. Reminiscent of Buffy the Vampire Slayer mixed with a dash of Sin City, fans of the original graphic novel series will find something to delight in this new title from Tokyopop.
