The Secret Life of Walter Kitty
by Barbara Jean Hicks, illustrated by Dan Santat
Ages 4-8 40 pages Knopf April 2007 Hardcover

Walter Kitty, also know as Fang, is no ordinary house cat. Unbeknownst to his clueless owners, he lives a life of intrigue and danger in this adorable and whimsical story of a cat with a big, bad attitude.

Fang answers to many names, including Walter, and leads a double life saving people and being a superhero, tiger cat and all-around housekeeper extraordinaire, living with Mr. and Mrs. Biddle, who know nothing about their cat’s secret lives. This kooky book combines fun and frolicky text with wonderfully humorous illustrations that portray a cat with at least nine lives - in his own head, that is! Hicks has also written Jitterbug Jam, and Santat is the creator of The Replacements, a show on Disney Channel. One can only hope the two team up again sometime soon.

The Secret Life of Walter Kitty will delight kids, and adults, of all ages, especially those lucky enough to share their home with a feline of their own. Who knew cats had such adventurous lives?
