Ten friends are preparing for a valentine party. They arrive with balloons, cupcakes, art supplies, and the cat. But before they can celebrate, they have to make valentine cards.
In this group, no one is forgotten; everyone is reminded that they are “liked.” Rhyming couplets describe the thought that goes into each card: Priscilla’s a princess in everyone’s eyes. Pam draws one for her—a fairy who flies.
Although most of the activity at the party is set in a polka-dot wallpapered living room, children also gather on the steps of a red carpeted spiral staircase. The room gets messier as the cards are made, but there are no parents nearby to see it.
Davick’s digital illustrations feature double-page spreads of the party filled with color and activity. Children can practice saying numbers (sometimes higher than ten) by counting the valentines that appear under each number, as well as the candy hearts and extra valentines that appear on the end papers of the book.
