My First Passover is the perfect board book to introduce little ones to the Jewish holiday. It provides just enough information to educate about the traditions, but not so much that it makes anyone feel overwhelmed or uninterested in learning about something new.
The simple text mentions that the special dinner is called the seder, during which food is eaten and songs are sung. Matzah and the seder plate and its contents (bitter herbs, charoses, shank bone, egg, salt water and parsley) are identified and illustrated. Even the haggadah (the four questions) and Elijah’s cup of wine are mentioned.
The introductory statements along with beautiful watercolor illustrations are a great way to bring the holiday to life for little ones experiencing Passover for the first (or even the second or the third) time.
