If you are struggling to find a way to have family time and devotions and can’t find something to fit your lifestyle and time, 52 Family Time Ideas may be just
your solution. These devotions are short, take about 20 minutes, and can drive home spiritual truth while engaging and entertaining your entire family.
Each session is headed by a Main Point, and the Materials Needed are listed. There is a Warm-up section with questions for discussion, then a passage from the Bible to read out loud. The next section provides questions to talk about the Bible passage (answers included), and a What Should We Do? question to tie the Bible story to our own lives. Finally, there is an activity that also has questions. Each lesson concludes with a short prayer.
Adaptations are given for younger children and for teens, as most of the sessions are geared toward families with kids from
four to fourteen. Occasional “movie nights” are provided, with the family watching a video together and there are questions about the movie’s lessons.
One example of a session is one focusing on the main point of Rushing. The family takes a short trip to a store and looks at treadmills (or uses one they might have in the home) and discusses running, races, and Scripture talking about those things. Other sessions talk about priorities, perfection, recharging our batteries, the joy of learning, telling the truth, looking beyond the surface, and many other topics.
52 Family Time Ideas is an invaluable resource that will help families to connect and learn about God’s Word in a fun, non-studious manner. Learning will take place and kids won’t even realize it’s happening. Even non-Bible scholar parents will have fun doing these lessons as they leave nothing to chance. 52 Family Time Ideas is a great way to bring your family closer together.
