Junzo Terada’s (Animal Friends Swimming Hole Party!) somewhat rectangular-shaped board book is about friends coming together to play their instruments.
As Cat travels along a red fence, she meets Pig, Sheep, Horse and Cow. They each have an instrument to play and, later, share at the hoedown on the farm. A grey kitten accompanies the animals throughout the story, and the flaps that appear on the last two pages of the story allow the animals to pass their instruments back and forth to one another.
Only the last two pages of this simple story rhyme, but the story ends with a question on each page. This allows the reader to guess which animal will be the next to join Cat on her way to the barn. The mismatched-shaped diecut pages reveal bits of each animal that is to be guessed.
Parents can add animal sounds and identify the name of each instrument to add more material to the story.
