This lift-the-flap book offers multiple opportunities for a preschooler to learn about various types of animals. Arranged by habitats (desert, rainforest, coral reef, etc.), the interactive design and age-appropriate information will pique a youngster's imagination and hopefully set the stage for more a more detailed look at these creatures and their habitats in the future.
The 50 flaps hide an additional illustration and fact about the featured animals. For example, a child will learn that the capybara, the world's largest rodent which can reach a length of three feet, is a denizen of the Amazon rainforest. When the youngster flips the flap, he or she will also discover that the big rodent has webbed feet and is an accomplished swimmer.
What's the largest mollusk in the world? How do polar bears survive a dip in the frigid waters of the Arctic? How fast can a roadrunner run? These are just some of the questions you'll find answers to as you page through this book.
Just one word of advice: The first few times you read this book, run your fingers across each page - some of the tabs are so cleverly incorporated into the overall habitat scene that they are easy to miss. Hopefully your finger will locate the indentation that enables you to flip open the tab.
