Art, a large collared lizard, is painting en plain air in the desert when his little friend Max shows up also wanting to make art, but without any ideas about what to paint. Art suggests that Max paint a portrait of him, and the two lizards are off on a hilarious and whimsical journey together.
David Wiesner, a three-time Caldecott Medal winner for Tuesday, for The Three Pigs, and for Flotsam, has created a beautiful book that is a feast for the eyes. Art and Max is perfect for a preschooler who enjoys an imaginative and vivid story along the lines of Harold and the Purple Crayon.
