The animal babies in this book are hiding from their parents. They are nearby, though; they can be found underneath one of four flaps that appear near their parents.
Mack uses photographs and cartoon drawings in this board book. The adult animals are photographed in their natural surroundings, while the photographs of the babies are set against white backgrounds.
The flaps, which are colorful and sturdy, have simple illustrations on the front. The text, both on the page and under the flaps, includes the animal names (camel, seal, giraffe, chimpanzee) and a repetitive structure.
Moms and dads are referenced, and the last page includes a surprise under one of the flaps. The sturdy design of this book should hold up to multiple readings with babies and toddlers.
