Any exhausted parent will likely be drawn to the title of the book, and it will be worth every bit of energy it may take to agree to read just one more story before a child agrees to call it a day and go to sleep. In Bedtime for Mommy! ’s clever role reversal, a little girl is charged with the task of ensuring that her mother prepares for bed and goes to sleep.
Initially the mother resists the little girl’s declaration that it is bedtime, asking for five more minutes to finish her work. She takes her time cleaning up, dawdles in the bath, brushes her teeth, and chooses her clothes for the next day. Then a story (or two) must be selected and read, an untimely onset of unexplained thirst must be quenched, and hugs and kisses must be exchanged.
Bedtime for Mommy! is a wonderful and simple story that will provide children the opportunity to view night-time rituals from the perspective of their parents, who are responsible for ensuring that they are properly rested. The book is a unique twist on a classic childrearing responsibility, and one that should achieve a prominent place on every child’s bookshelf.
