There are many children's books out there with the “don't judge a book by its cover” theme, a good one to reinforce to young kids. Cece Bell's Bee-Wigged cannot simply be lumped into this category - it may even set a new standard for it.
The story is about a bee who just wants to make friends. But since everybody assumes bees are bad, it's tough to do. As a parent, you might guess what happens when the bee is able to disguise himself - and what happens when the disguise is discovered. But Bee-Wigged actually has a bit of a twist at the story's conclusion.
My five-year-old (aka my book guinea pig) smiles and giggles each time he hears me read it. Come to think of it, I smile and giggle, too. It's a wonderful little book for ages 4-7.
