The Big Stink (Nathan Abercrombie, Accidental Zombie)
by David Lubar
Ages 8+ 176 pages Starscape August 2010 Paperback

Nathan Abercrombie is a a regular fifth-grader living a full life: he has two best friends, shares a kindergarten classroom with eight graders when his school is overrun by a mold problem, is doing his best to survive the attention of the school bully, tries to cover up the really rotten smelling situation developing as his body begins to decompose, and grin and bear gym class.

Oh, a couple more things: he’s also half-dead–a zombie—thanks to Abigail’s mad-scientist uncle who splashed him with a chemical, and he works as a nighttime spy for BUM – the Bureau of Useful Misadventures.

This is the fourth installment in the Nathan Abercrombie, Accidental Zombie series. Author David Lubar continues with his twisted premise, weird and wacky dialogues and characters that keep the story rolling along with the laughs.

Nathan Abercrombie’s geeky but genuinely likeable character provides an age-appropriate, funny, light reference to zombies, but the focus remains on Nathan’s antics as a normal boy–adventurous, curious, insecure and funny. References to stinky and sticky situations will be entertaining to most fifth-graders. Highly recommended.
