Big Wolf lives by himself under a tree at the top of a hill. He is alone but happy. Then, one day, Little Wolf shows up from very far away. Now there are two wolves under the tree. Big Wolf ignores Little Wolf.
Night falls, and still Little Wolf stays. Big Wolf thinks this is going too far - this is Big Wolf’s tree, after all! But when Little Wolf begins to shiver from the cold, Big Wolf shares his leaf blanket with him. In the morning, Little Wolf hasn’t picked any fruit for breakfast, so Big Wolf decides to share the extra fruit he has with Little Wolf. And so it goes, as they slowly become accustomed to one another.
But then Little Wolf disappears, leaving Big Wolf lonely and sad. It turns out that Little Wolf has taken up space not just under Big Wolf’s tree, but in his very heart. When Little Wolf eventually does return, the two wolves shyly admit that they have each missed the other, and a warm new friendship is born.
Children’s writer Nadine Brun-Cosme and well-known illustrator Olivier Tallec have created a beautiful and touching book about opening one’s heart to new friends. The winner of numerous awards in its native France, Big Wolf and Little Wolf turns a simple story line into a moving story about love and loss.
