Each one shouts "Go away!" then begins making some major noise with a big drum, a gong, a bassoon or a horn. Eventually the cacophony of sound diminishes as all the little would-be musicians fall asleep. Frankly, as a parent, I'm not sure I want to read my child a book where the adults in the story are told, in no uncertain terms, to "Go away!" Although this is meant to be a harmless story that features various types of sounds and cute, fanciful characters, I don't care for the repetition of the same line throughout the book. If, when I suggest it is bedtime to my child, and he replies, "Go away!" am I supposed to laugh off his cute response? What is funny within the context of this book may not be after story time is over.
