Baby-preschool 12 pages Random House/Disney August 2006 Board book

Children can never have enough board books in their libraries, and this four-part collection based on characters from Disney’s animated movie Cars a welcome delight. Each book covers a broad topic, and the entire set fits perfectly in a convenient carrying case for kids on the go.

The first book features a wide range of shapes both within the context of a race (like the square flags found at a finish line) and outside of it (like the trees that have triangular tops). The book on colors shows the colors of the cars that jetted around Radiator Springs in the hit movie. There’s an abundance of things to count in the board book dedicated to this topic, and the objects range from tipping tractors and flying flags to funny forklifts and prickly plants. Big trucks (like Mack) and small ones (like Guido) are some of the many cars featured on the book relating to opposites. This book also features new and old tires, slow and fast cars, and those that are happy and those that are sad.

Those children familiar with the Disney characters from the movie (including McQueen, Mater, and Sally) will enjoy being re-introduced to them in a different medium. However, even children who have not seen the movie will likely enjoy (and learn from) this charming book collection.
