My Chanukah Playbook is an incredibly clever way to teach young children about the Jewish holiday and some of its associated traditions. The gold coins visible on the front cover play a number of different roles as readers slide them out and re-insert them into different slots found throughout the book.

First, there is a short description of the Maccabees, and the coins play a critical protective role as they become their shields. From there, the coins can be slid onto the plate to represent the latkes, the commemorative potato pancakes fried in oil and eaten on the holiday to symbolize the miracle of the oil that was expected to last for a short period of time but ended up lasting for eight full days.

The coins also represent the money that is inserted into a tzedekah (charity) box to be donated to those who are less fortunate. And, on the final page, each of the coins can be slotted into the menorah to represent the eight flames that commemorate the eight days of the holiday celebration.

My Chanukah Playbook is a charming interactive celebration of the holiday and will provide little ones with the opportunity to both read and play while learning all about its festive traditions.
