Originally published in 1962, this re-issue describes an old-fashioned, religious Christmas. The children are all white and blonde, and many letters in this rhyming, alphabet book relate to Jesus and the church: F is for Flower, bright as the star
That shepherds and Wise Men saw from afar; V is for Voices of boys in the choir, Singing God’s praises in festive attire Some of the letters, such as J, O and T, are hard to identify because they are so ornate in design. The story may cause adults to reminisce (Santa smokes a pipe, the tree is lit with candles, and dad wears a hat to church), but children may not see themselves in this story. Fans of the original may be the best audience for this particular Little Golden Book.
