Sparklingly imaginative, full of whimsy and wit, Could You? Would You? includes questions that are not only skill-building (“how tall are you in centimeters?”) but many that are creativity-building as well (“in bananas?”). The author doesn’t talk down to her target audience yet still maintains an easily understandable tone and style that’s entertaining and engaging. The book’s interactive manner enables kids to be not just readers but writers, artists, explorers and philosophers as well. Some may think it’s odd to have such a philosophical book aimed at elementary school-aged kids, but that’s what makes it so worthwhile. Giving children the opportunities to think deep thoughts, to consider their lives, their worlds, their families, is exactly what they need to spark their imagination, and to build a sense of self and community.
