Wilbur the pig lives in a barn owned by Mr. Zuckerman. He finds a friend in the barn: a spider named Charlotte. Wilbur knows that he is going to the county fair, and he needs to win a blue ribbon so that he can stay in the barn with all his other friends.
Wilbur is small for his age but has a big heart. All his friends want him to be special because they know he is. They want him to win so he can be safe in the barn. Charlotte spins a perfect web and writes a special word in the web. She wants everyone to know what a special and lovely pig Wilbur is.
He gets a special buttermilk bath before going to make his skin shine. On this day to get ready for the fair, they pack up all the pies and jams that have been packaged carefully and all. Wilbur’s friend Templeton the rat helps finds a good word for Charlotte to spin into the web. She decides on “humble”.
Wilbur has been raised really by a young girl named Fern. She finds a way to help everyone know that Wilbur is special, too. She wants to keep her friend Wilbur safe in the barn as well.
Adapted from E. B.White’s classic book and based on the 2006 movie adaptation of Charlotte’s Web, Wilbur's Prize from the I Can Read 2 series gives emerging and developing readers who know the story and have seen the movie to want to learn to read.
