Baby-PreK 26 pages Robin Corey Books April 2010 Board book

This sweet little board book begins a cheerful image of a toddler bouncing up and down on her Daddy’s knees, and the words “Daddy calls me Doodlebug…”

Next we see images of various father-and-baby animal pairs in different natural settings. Snow owls play hide-and-seek in the winter snow, dolphins sing “Shoo-Be-Doo” as they swim in the ocean, monkeys swing from jungle vines together, and penguins slide joyfully on ice. Each two-page spread is accompanied by rhyming verse naming some of the cute, funny or just plain silly nicknames that Daddies have for their babies.

In the final image, we see the toddler riding on her Dad’s shoulders. The text says, “Daddy calls me Doodlebug…because he loves me so!” - a perfect ending to the book.

This sweet, gentle and playful board book will be fun for fathers and children to read together. The lovely illustrations by Hiroe Nakata are pleasing to the eye and offer lots of detail about the animal world for little ones to pore over on each page.
