Grades PreK-1 40 pages Knopf May 2010 Hardcover

The exuberant title and cheerful cover illustration of an adorable elephant dancing with a ladybug suggest at first glance that Dancing Feet! will prove be a very enjoyable picture book, and this little book indeed lives up to that promise.

Dancing Feet! asks children to guess who is dancing based on the clues provided in the text and illustrations. For instance, we are told that a critter is dancing tippity! tippity! on little black feet - children can follow the accompanying bug tracks across the page to find ladybugs dancing. Similarly, we see elephants dancing on stompity feet, ducks going slappity on their webbed feet, and a caterpillar’s many purple feet following a creepity beat.

The addictively rhythmic, happy text by Lindsey Craig is perfectly married to Marc Brown’s energetic and joyous cut-paper collage artwork in primary colors and strong shapes, strongly reminiscent of the work of Eric Carle. A delightful little book that will inspire little ones to get up and dance!
