Dancing Dinos Go to School (Step into Reading Step 1) by Sally Lucas, illustrated by Margeaux Lucas Grades PreK-1 32 pages Random House July 2006 Paperback     This Step into Reading Step 1 book features dinosaurs that escape from a book to frolic through a school library while a young boy and the librarian watch bemusedly (“Dinos dancing in a book. Dinos leaping, look, look, look!”). Young children will be amused by their silly antics in the classroom - erasing blackboards, spilling things, and generally creating a mess (“Dinos pasting red and blue. Dinos wasting paint and glue!”). The text is rhythmic and joyous, and the dinosaurs are non-threatening, turning out to be rather well-meaning in spite of the havoc they wreak. The book is simple and fun and will certainly help to build a beginning reader's confidence in their reading skills.
