What a funny idea: writing a letter to the fish of the ocean. Even more comic: asking them for a visit. That, in a nutshell, is the theme of Chris Gall’s Dear Fish .
How would fish respond to such an invitation? This imaginative picture book takes us through the overwhelming repercussions of inviting an ocean’s worth of animal life into the world above the water. What’s worse, as things continue to grow out of hand, how can the fish be sent back home?
The illustrations are lively and detail the originality of the plot’s concepts. There are no particular hidden meanings or morals, just a clear presentation of creative comedy aimed at young children and grownups alike. I give this picture book 4 stars and a good laugh from my belly.
