Dinosaurs! (2005), Prehistoric Monsters! (2008) and Dino Babies! (2010) now appear in 3-D in the book Dinosaurs: In Your Face! .
Written and illustrated by respected authorities in the field of paleontology, the text incorporates definitions, pronunciations, and facts about dinosaurs. A timeline on each double-page spread indicates when the prehistoric creatures lived. The author encourages the reader to answer questions (What did Platybelodon do with its shovel jaw?) and to imagine scenarios (Imagine that you are in a T. rex baby in your nest on a dark, chilly night).
The first book begins with the Chindesaurus in the Triassic period and ends with the great-great-grandchildren of the dinosaurs alive today in the Age of Mammals period. The illustrations show vicious battles and chases, but they also show families of dinosaurs living peacefully together.
Information about fossils and eggs can be found in Dino Babies. Dinosaurs are identified as plant or meat-eaters. Their sizes are compared to animals children recognize (“Baby Triceratops were only as big as sheep”). The author also discusses the best dinosaur moms and dads and the Drinkers discovery in Wyoming.
Prehistoric Monsters is divided by eras. From the sea to the land, the creatures discussed in this section include trilobites, sea scorpions, and our ancestors, the Ice Age humans. Unlike the other two books, this one has labeled illustrations.
Although the text can be read without the 3-D glasses, they need to be worn if the illustrations are to be appreciated.
