Frankie Landau-Banks and her sister are great friends, and her older sister is a wonderful support system for Frankie at her posh school one that her father chose for her based on his perception of its ability to generate contacts for her future. Frankie, like all teenagers, just wants to be accepted; once she blooms physically, she is both pleased and appalled by the attention her new body gets her. Still, she is thrilled when the popular Michael becomes her boyfriend. Her mind tends to over-analyze situations, and soon she becomes miffed about the childish male-dominated club and their seemingly senseless antics. Frankie sets out to make them all see how silly they are, and in doing so, she steps way over the line and finds herself ousted from the in group.
Author, E. Lockhart has written several other books for young adults - Dramarama, The Boyfriend List, Fly on the Wall and The Boy Book. In her latest release, The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks (March 2008), readers see that some life lessons can be tough to take.
The cover design by Elizabeth H. Clark depicts a powder-blue envelope stamped with a wax seal with the image of a Beagle dog; the simplistic art is actually quite significant to the story. This 352-page novel would be appropriate for readers aged 12 and older.
While I could find no information on the eco-printing options taken by publishing imprint Hyperion Books (acid or chlorine-free paper, recycled content, veggie inks, carbon offsetting, eco-registered forests, etc.), the book is printed in the U.S., resulting in fewer fossil fuels spent on North American readers.
