Grades PreK-2 40 pages Candlewick September 2008 Paperback

Since Bertie’s favorite color is blue, it comes as no surprise that the pet he most desires is a blue dog. He realizes, however, that a blue dog may be difficult to find, so he decides the best alternative is to pretend he has one.

As the story unfolds, Bertie plays with his pretend blue dog, feeds it, takes it for a walk, and plays fetch. This seems to satisfy Bertie - until he comes across a lonely black-and-white dog looking for an owner. He immediately bonds with the dog but becomes torn between his affection for the black-and-white dog and the blue dog he has dreamed of for so long.

Dog Blue is a sweet, simply told story, accompanied by charming illustrations, about a little boy, his desires, and the creative way he satisfies them.
