After Duck and Goose see Thistle holding a perfect orange pumpkin, they want one of their own.
They look in the most obvious places first; under the autumn leaves, in the pond, and up the apple tree. They don’t think to look in the pumpkin patch until Thistle wanders by and says, “Have you tried the pumpkin patch?” When Duck and Goose come out carrying a bigger, heavier pumpkin than Thistle’s, the two friends agree that they knew all along how to find a pumpkin.
There is no holiday specified in this oversized board book (originally published as a hardcover in 2009), so the story could be read before Halloween or Thanksgiving. The double-page spreads, which were rendered in oil paint, contain bright fall colors and humorous illustrations. Duck and Goose’s childlike personalities make Tad Hill’s (Duck, Duck, Goose and What’s Up, Duck?: A Book of Opposites) stories a success.
