*Fairground Lights* by Fran Nuno, illustrated by Enrique Quevedo
Fairground Lights
by Fran Nuno, illustrated by Enrique Quevedo
Ages 5-7 24 pages Cuento de Luz October 2013 Hardcover

When the narrator’s father takes him to the fair, the boy quickly discovers that this is not your run-of-the-mill county fair. Far from it! The midway rides leave their tracks and soar into the air, taking the boy on a wild trip around the fairgrounds. The roller coaster has snow at the top, and in the House of Mirrors, the reflections that bounce back are of storybook characters and animals.

The entire visit goes like this—one surprise after another. The last and biggest surprise awaits the youthful narrator at the end of the day when the fireworks display really allows the child’s imagination to soar.

Enrique Quevedo’s two-dimensional illustrations in muted colors capture this special day at the fairgrounds and are easy to look at. Translated from Spanish and now available in the U.S., this interesting picture book will appeal to children with active imaginations.
