Fancy Nancy spends some quality time at the beach with her mother, her little sister, JoJo, their dog, Frenchy, and her best friend, Bree.
While they are at the beach, they play in the waves with a beach ball, they eat popsicles while relaxing in their beach chairs, and they use buckets and small shovels to build the “fanciest sand castle ever.” Bree giggles when one of her shell decorations walks away, but Fancy Nancy’s mom has an ingenious way to decorate the towers; I am sure many readers will be trying it out next time they visit a sandy beach.
Like on many family trips, things happen that make the trip seem long. There is traffic to get through, stops for bathroom breaks, and the packing and unpacking of the car.
The story incorporates a few fancy words (lavatory, frolic) and one French word (voilà). Fancy Nancy, Bree and the dog dress up with pearl necklaces, seashell headbands and clips, and very decorative one-piece bathing suits. The back cover of the book says that Freddy goes to the beach with them too, but I don’t see Freddy on any of the pages.
The single page of stickers that comes with this book includes pictures of Fancy Nancy, JoJo, Bree, and a few of the things that are found on the beach in the story.
This book comes with a removable sheet of thirty-six autumn stickers (leaves, squash, squirrels, rakes, cider, and pie). This is a quick read that old and new fans can fall into on a chilly autumn day.
