Ages 4-8 32 pages Michael Neugebauer/North-South July 2005 Paperback

Just add the word “Fart” to your title, and you have an instant success with kids. But throw in a delightful story and adorable colorful illustrations, and you have a success with both parents and kids. That’s Farley Farts, a fanciful farce about a farting frog named Farley.

Seems Farley has a bit of a problem with gas and indigestion, for he is always farting and getting into trouble because of it. But he just can’t help himself. So he tries real hard to make it stop, only he ends up holding in so much gas he blows up like a huge balloon. The end result is a gas of a good time in this hilarious book that will have kids roaring with laughter. Not to mention their parents.

Birte Muller is a German author and artist, and her illustrations are big and bright and leap off the page with color. But it’s her lead character’s health issue that will grab your little reader’s attention, and she never makes it vulgar or gross. Just silly good fun with a farting frog named Farley.
