As a child, I had a fascination for trees. Growing up in a woodsy area of New York State, I devoured field guides and books about what trees thrived in my region and memorized their names, leaf shapes, even seed sizes.
Enchanted Lion Books’ Field Guide: Trees is a book I would have cherished, and do indeed now, even as I enter my 45th year and still look at trees with such awe. This gorgeously illustrated and informative guide introduces readers to the world of trees, from observing and identifying various types, to how they seed and flower and grow, to what amazing benefits they have on our environment.
We learn the differences in shape, bark, leaves, flowers, and fruits and why these amazing phanerogams, plants that produce by means of seeds, are so critical to life itself on planet Earth. Accompanied by dozens of color illustrations and photographs, the text is hugely informative and educational and will appeal to child and adult alike.
I cannot say enough about this book. It is as lush as a tropical forest, as vivid as a woodland grove. And at a time when the environment is suffering from the degradation of human disrespect, it is a book that hopefully will teach and inspire and motivate kids to do all they can to protect these wondrous miracles of nature.
